Growing Esteem Responsible Division Management Implementation

Guiding Principles

Efficient and effective services will enable the University’s faculties and graduate schools to achieve their academic missions.

The Responsible Division Management Implementation Project is an organisational change project, and as such, will have an effect on individual staff’s working lives.

The project –

  1. seeks to maximise the involvement of all staff in the project, and specifically the engagement of staff in the development and implementation of proposed change
  2. will be open to ideas and respect differences of opinion
  3. aims that the process of change, when it is decided change is necessary, will be conducted in a way that:
    1. is fair
    2. respects individuals and the work that they do
    3. seeks input from staff into proposals before decisions are made
  4. will measure its success by how well it meets the goals of introducing savings and implementing enhancements to services.

Principles for staff transition

The following principles will guide transition arrangements:

  1. Staff will be treated equitably irrespective of their current work location.
  2. Where new positions are created, staff or a subsection of staff will be given the opportunity to be considered for roles.
  3. Decisions about placement will be based on consideration of the current level of candidate and merit.
  4. Staff whose roles are affected by the implementation of organisational changes resulting from RDM will be considered for roles in the new structures.  Appointments will be made on the basis of merit, through fair and open selection processes.
  5. Staff will be provided with reasonable information about the timing of the process, and specifically when the process should be completed. 
  6. Should job redesign of a current position be necessary through the implementation of service changes, this will be undertaken in consultation with the staff member.
  7. Staff will be provided with reasonable professional development to support them in undertaking new or significantly altered roles.
